Rosa Lee Baskerville Jones Smith, daughter of late Lee Jones and Queen Baskerville Jones, entered into eternal rest and peace on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Community Memorial Healthcenter, South Hill, Virginia.
Rosa was a native of Mecklenburg County and attended the Mecklenburg County public schools. She accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and joined the Lombardy Grove Baptist Church, South Hill, Virginia where she served with the Usher Ministry and as a Deaconess until her health began to fail.
In 1943, she married James Allen Smith, and to this union seven children were born. James preceded her in death on August 8, 2011.
Rosa leaves to cherish precious memories: a devoted daughter, Alice Smith Eldridge of Richmond; and six loving sons, James L. (Edna Mae) Smith of Baskerville, William (Ann) Smith of Richmond, Charles (Deborah) Smith of Macon, GA, Gordon (Sheila) Smith of Richmond, Alfred (Erica) Smith of La Crosse and Franklin (Carolyn) Smith of South Hill; a former son-in-law, Donald Eldridge; eight grandchildren, Charlene, William, Jr., Zandra, Charles, Jr., Darryl, Chimere, Dominic and Devonte; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a devoted niece, Queen Elizabeth Harris; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Homegoing Services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Lombardy Grove Baptist Church, South Hill, VA with Rev. James Moore, Pastor officiating and Rev. Earl Walker eulogizing. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Viewing will be Wednesday, February 29, 2012 from 12 noon until 6 pm at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Services for Mrs. Smith are entrusted to the staff of the Oris P. Jones Funeral Establishment, South Hill, VA.
